Petrol likely to hit $1.65 a litre
Sharon Labi, News Limited Online - Australia, 11 May 2008AUSTRALIAN motorists should expect to pay $1.65 for petrol within weeks, thanks to a surge in the price of Singapore crude.
Last week Singapore prices rose 10 per cent, which CommSec equities economist Savanth Sebastian said would translate to higher prices within seven to 10 business days.
And if the Aussie dollar was still worth US78c as it was just over a year ago, motorists would now be paying an extra 25c a litre.
The big winner of rising fuel prices is public transport as more people leave the car at home and hop on a bus or train to work, saving on petrol and tolls.
